Through a combination of theoretical exploration, real-world examples, and sociological analysis, students will gain insight into the complex dynamics of human social behavior, from interpersonal dynamics to the complex social forces that shape these interactions. Topics will include childhood socialization, family structures and dynamics, gender roles and expectations, understanding deviant behavior (gangs, drugs, crime), race relations, population growth, sexuality and gender identification, and social movements. Students will have the opportunity to apply sociological theories to real-world situations and engage in critical discussions about contemporary social issues and change.
