This foundational course introduces students to core principles of leadership through the lens of sports and team dynamics. Students explore essential qualities of successful athletes and leaders, including integrity, communication, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Through examining stories of notable athletes and teams, students learn how positive leadership influences team culture and success. The course emphasizes practical leadership skills like supporting teammates, handling challenging situations, and making ethical decisions both on and off the field. Students will develop their own leadership style while learning how great teams function and what makes sports organizations successful. Guest speakers from the sports world will share their journeys from young athletes to leaders in their field, providing inspiration and real-world perspective. While focused on immediate application in sports and school settings, the course also introduces students to the broader world of sports careers and leadership opportunities.

Capstone Project

For the final project, you'll create your own "Champion's Playbook" – a personal guide that captures your vision of sports leadership and teamwork. Think of this as your game plan for being an exceptional teammate and emerging leader. You'll share your personal definition of leadership and describe three key strengths you bring to your team. Include examples of great teamwork you've witnessed or been part of, explaining what made these moments special. You'll also create specific goals for being a better teammate and describe ways you can help build team spirit. The project concludes with your future vision – what kind of leader you want to become and how you hope to make a difference in sports. You can present your Champion's Playbook in any format that works best for you – whether that's a digital presentation, handwritten journal, video, or poster board. What matters most is that your Playbook reflects your personal style and shows what you've learned about being a great teammate and leader.
