Course Description
As technology and consumer preferences evolve, the people working in the multi-billion dollar entertainment industry seek new ways to connect with audiences and fans as well as innovative entertainment experiences in an increasingly global business. Our flagship summer course in entertainment, media, and sports explores core business principles, innovation, and important trends for students interested in careers in the industry.
Students will learn about the filmed entertainment business – how blockbuster movies like Barbie and Avatar: The Way of Water are marketed, how streaming has opened up new career opportunities, and how technology impacts animated titles (e.g., Spiderverse movies, Inside Out 2, Nimona, etc.) and live action films (via AI, streaming and more). They will explore how gaming (e.g., Fortnite, League of Legends, etc.) is creating new and different entertainment experiences, and hear from executives working in music and live events. And students will see how the world of sports is evolving – especially in Los Angeles where we will host the World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
This program is taught and sponsored by the Center for Media, Entertainment, and Sports at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Classes have been specifically designed for high school students based on Anderson's graduate and summer undergraduate classes.
