In this course, we will explore sports journalism and broadcasting. Every play has a story to be told. Students will learn the principles of reporting, storytelling, compelling narratives, and play-by-play commentary. We will explore the important role photography plays in capturing iconic moments for emotional and dramatic impact. We will explore how digital content provides sports coverage through websites, apps, and social media accounts. These online communities drive fan engagement, and will continue to expand their reach through sports media, virtual reality, and esports. We will also discuss the media’s role in catapulting athletes into legendary icon status where increased media coverage = increased star power. And once students are armed with the tools and tactics of sports journalists, they will have the opportunity to develop and pitch their own compelling story, engaging programming, and/or content ideas to industry professionals.
